DAPHNE OSENA: LIVING LIFE TO ITS FULLEST

By: Maeyahn Aguilar

Newscaster-turned-lifestyle host Daphne Oseńa-Paez is experiencing and living life to the fullest. She is the host and the producer of Urban Zone, a lifestyle show which airs in ABSCBN Ch 2 at 11:45 pm on Sundays. She is also a jewelry designer. Her own brand and designs are sold at www.daphneosena.com and Rockwell’s Accessory Lab. Daphne also has her own line of luxury bed linens made from 100% cotton with 380 thread count. The Daphne Osena Paez line is sold in Our Home.

She received a couple of awards that remind her she’s on the right track. “Most recently there’s the Gold Medal from the US Film and Video awards for ‘Proudly Filipina.’ My interview with the three female Mount Everest mountaineers won the gold. But more than the awards, I am most proud of the kind of work that I’ve been privileged to do – as host and producer – all my shows have been of good quality. ”

With her quirky classic, feminine, and quality over quantity style, Daphne graces the covers of countless magazines. She is also featured in newspapers all over the country. Daphne frequently updates her livejournal blog. She started with a flickr account before moving to LJ. “It started as a way to keep my family photos online for my friends and family to see but it got too public. And my captions became huge entries – with stories and anecdotes. So I decided to open a livejournal account.”

Inspired by her mother, Daphne learned to lead by example. “I learned from my mother that a woman really has to make choices. She can’t have everything. My mom always had work, but she didn’t have a high powered career. She told me that she wanted and could have been a lawyer. But her life turned out to make her the wife of a military officer. She focused on being my dad’s partner and in raising us. She is the happiest, most-fulfilled mother and grandmother and I admire her. I continue to work and strive for excellence in what I do, but my decisions revolve around the schedules of my two daughters, Sophia (who’s 5) and Lily (2.) Even if it means losing a few jobs.”

Daphne’s greatest accomplishment, rather accomplishments, are her two girls. “When I see my two daughters running around and laughing out loud and my husband (journalist Patrick Paez of “The Correspondents”) constantly tells me, ‘thank you for raising them well.’” I really believe that our success will be manifested through our children.”
